VIPERS QUESTION STEMS

As well as developing children’s fluency in reading, developing children’s comprehension (understanding) of a text is very important.  When reading with your children at home, please refer to the VIPERS questions stems to help question your child on their understanding of a text, whilst also exposing them to the many different question types. Each letter in VIPERS stands for a different type of comprehension question that the children may be asked within their reading lessons/tests: Vocabulary, Inference, Prediction, Explain, Retrieve, Summarise.
