Science at Pitmaston

At Pitmaston, we aim to ignite our pupils’ passion and develop their motivation for science, becoming our future Scientists. We are proud of achieving the Primary Science Quality Mark Gilt award evidencing the highest quality of science leadership and teaching, as recognition and an accreditation.

Pupils will be given the foundations for understanding the world through scientific interpretation. Our progressive curriculum develops children’s knowledge and concepts, cultivating a sense of excitement and curiosity about natural phenomena. We develop the children’s awareness as to how science has changed our lives and how it is vital to the world’s future prosperity and sustainability.

Our pupils are educated about the essential aspects of the knowledge, methods, processes and uses of science through Biology, Chemistry and Physics. Scientific language is to be taught and built upon as topics are revisited in different year groups and across key stages. We aim for all of our pupils, regardless of their gender, ethnic origin, class, aptitude or disability, to be able to explain what is occurring, predict how things will behave, and analyse causes.

Science Ambassadors share a love of science, ensure our Phiz Lab is tidy and resourced for Science lessons, lead the Science club that runs in school, complete learning walks with the Science Lead and carry out pupil voice.
