On Thursday 6th January 2022 , Key Stage 2 welcomed the poet Karl Nova into school. Children were treated to a writing workshop where they were able to listen to Karl perform, discuss poetic techniques and have a go at beginning to write their own poems. Karl’s unique delivery and passion for poetry was a real experience and made for a very entertaining day for all.
On Thursday 3rd November all of our Year 1 and 2 classes were treated to a performance poetry session from Debra Bertulis. Debra is a writer of stories, plays and children’s poetry. The children thoroughly enjoyed listening to Debra’s poems as well as performing them using Talk for Writing strategies. Debra was extremely complimentary about the children’s behaviour, listening skills and enthusiasm for poetry. Thank you for inspiring our children, Debra!
On Friday 9th December Early Years had a very exciting afternoon when Author John Row visited. John, who is a poet and children’s author worked with all Early Years children during the afternoon in a storytelling workshop. The children were so excited to meet him and join in with his storytelling. It is clear the children have come away from the workshops with a love of stories and reading. Well done everyone for being such Listening Leopards.
