FAMILY SUPPORT
Family support is about empowering you through personalised advice and support, to find solutions and make positive changes to improve home and family life.
Who?
My name is Kelethe Pusharski and I am Pitmaston Primary School’s very own Family Support Worker (FSW). We have a dedicated Family Support room in school, offering a safe and private place to chat, but I can also meet you in your own home when necessary. Pop by the school office, phone school ( 01905 423710 ) or send me an email ( KPusharski@pitmaston.worcs.sch.uk ) to make an appointment.
What?
Support might be short or long-term, but will always be tailored to meet the needs of you and your family. Areas of support might include:
- Support and advice in establishing routines, implementing age appropriate boundaries and promoting positive behaviour at home.
- Support and advice in managing distressed behaviours and emotional turmoil from your child.
- Support during difficult periods of change i.e. relationship breakdown, divorce, illness, bereavement.
- Helping parents engage in their child’s education: working alongside you to ensure your child attends school every day and arrives on time.
- Support for parents at school and in other agency meetings.
- If necessary, individual support for children around areas such as self-esteem and confidence, bullying, emotions, online safety, a new baby in the family or other significant life events.
- Advice relating to housing and money worries; helping you gain control of your family budget.
- Assistance in completing paperwork and forms e.g. housing, benefits, job applications.
- Providing information and signposting to other services in the local area, including dedicated support for victims of domestic abuse. .
All support given is confidential; however, any concerns relating to the safeguarding of children will be dealt with in accordance to school’s Safeguarding Policy.
When?
I am in school every Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday from 8:30am.
What’s on?
- FSW Drop-in Session: Every Friday morning during term-time I run a FSW drop-in session between 9:00-9:30am. You don’t need an appointment to attend – just come via the main office after morning drop off for a chat.
- Parent Workshops/Family Thrive: I am a licensed Thrive Practitioner and Course Leader for Family Thrive. This means that throughout the year I run targeted workshops for parents/carers, which focus on better understanding children’s behaviour and providing parents with practical strategies. Once a year, I run an in-depth 6-week ‘Family Thrive’ course for parents/carers. This course takes a look at how our children’s brains and stress regulation systems develop, and how we can use this knowledge to respond to our children’s behaviour in a way which best supports and nurtures their emotional and social development.
- FSW Newsletters: Keep an eye on your Parent App for the latest Family Support Newsletter. These half-termly newsletters contain an array of useful hints and tips, as well as signposting to local services that parents/carers may find helpful.
“Kelethe was very friendly and welcoming and also listened to what I had to say as well. I work in the education sector and felt a little embarrassed to ask for help, however from talking to Kelethe she put me at ease and reminded me we are all human and it’s OK to ask for support”.
“Kelethe is very warm and easy to talk to. She seems to really care and want to help. She gave, and is still giving, good advice and help. Really appreciate her help and the school’s support”.
“I am so thankful for Family Support. Kelethe taught me there is no shame in asking for help, and that sometimes we all need a little support!”.
