Voting for Head Pupils
Each year, children nominate themselves as a candidate for Head Pupil. After the initial round, where children vote for their preferred candidate within their class, twelve nominees present their manifestos to the whole school.
Children from Reception to Year 6, and staff across school, vote for their four new Head Pupils by marking an X against their name in a ballot booth and putting their vote into the ballot box. The votes are then independently counted and verified before the results are announced in assembly.
House Captain and Sports Council prepare a speech for the children in their phase and their Houses take a vote to decide who will be their chosen candidates.
Our other roles such as Pupil Leader, Cyber Buddies, Eco Council and Learning Detectives are also voted in each year using a democratic process within their classes.
On Wednesday, 5th October we welcomed Councillor Tracey Onslow, Cabinet Member for Education in Worcester, into our school. She was greeted by the Head Pupils who shared the democratic voting system we have in school for the election of Head Pupils and the content of their manifestos.
All of Year 5 and 6 met with Councillor Onslow, who shared her role and gave them the opportunity to ask her some great questions – some of them were really challenging!
We were proud to show Councillor Tracey Onslow around Pitmaston, all the pupils were so polite and she was very impressed with the high expectations for behaviour and learning in our school.
