Art at Pitmaston
At Pitmaston, our children enjoy a wealth of artistic opportunities learning to paint, draw, sculpt and create. Pupils are inspired by famous artists to create vibrant, expressive art developing their skills over their time here.
Children work with media such as clay, collage material, watercolours, pastels and much more to create expressive masterpieces. They develop their techniques and ideas in a sketchbook and gather finished work in a portfolio which they take from year to year.
Our Art curriculum is planned based on a skills progression which was designed using the EYFS framework and national curriculum as its starting point. Each unit of artwork is planned thematically to link with the topics and famous art works are chosen to inspire the pupils, giving them access to a wide knowledge of artists and techniques during their time at Pitmaston.
Our teachers consider the needs of all learners in their provision, supporting those who have not had significant prior access to artistic opportunities, using, for example, different media, tools, templates or additional guidance to those who require it. In line with our inclusion policy, all pupils will have access to all activities including those with SEND. Additional opportunities are planned for particularly gifted artists throughout their time at Pitmaston, as well as extensions planned for within lessons.
We regularly exhibit our work at county wide events and collaborate with other local primary schools.
