‘Tapping’ for Calm and Focus

‘Tapping’ is directly aimed at relieving symptoms of stress and anxiety. It is a simple, self-administered tool that is easily taught to children and it involves ‘tapping’ on particular points on the face, the collarbone and the wrist. It is sometimes also known as ‘energy tapping’ or EFT and has in fact benefited several children -and adults – in our school.

All children in years 4,5 and 6 have been taught the technique. Feedback has been positive: children have said it has helped them with improving sleep, visits to the dentist, tests, competitions and performing in front of an audience.

Although the technique taught at school is shorter, it is very similar to the one shown in these videos:

Our younger children have been taught ‘The Butterfly Hug’.

They imagine they are a butterfly, spread their ‘wings’ and give themselves a hug, by crossing their arms across their chest. They then gently ‘tap’ the collarbone area with their fingertips. This also has a calming and reassuring effect.
