On Friday 18th November 2016, Year 6 were lucky enough to take part in Parliament day at the Hive.  Mrs Wilcock said: “Today has been such a fantastic opportunity for our children.  The Year 6 pupils have been working towards Pitmaston Parliament Day all week, bringing British Values and the wider curriculum to life.  They have been learning about the etiquette of politics and debating within the House of Commons, researching the topic, practising their persuasion and debating skills and really challenging their ideas and thinking.  Diane Hedditch, a Magistrate, visited school this week leading a ‘making laws’ work shop and debate in school with both Year 5 and Year 6 pupils in preparation.  We know that some pupils are naturally confident speakers but we have seen today how many of the less confident children have actually put themselves forward and spoken during the debates. Rachel Barrell, Principal Lecturer, her colleagues and the teaching students put a huge amount of hard work and thought into making the day such a huge success.  At the end of the day the pupils enjoyed meeting “a real member of parliament” Nigel Huddleston, to announce the results of the vote, and I was particularly proud of the challenging, thought provoking questions they asked.  These are the events our pupils remember and learn the most from.
